It’s not all too often these days that new Horror-Punk/Goth n Roll bands are conjured into existence, but the ones which find their way onto my radar rarely disappoint.

Enter “Midnight Feature”, a group of horror fans from the West Midlands whose history is shrouded in mystery and stretches back further than their summoning from the darkness in 2024.

Their debut single “From The Grave” opens strong with a classic 1931 Frankenstein sound sample, followed up with all of the classic hallmarks of Horror Punk; their high energy DIY production combines a blend of sound somewhere between early Misfits and Blitzkid, with a modern twist similar to that of US vampire rockers Calabrese.

We had a quick chat with Midnight Feature to see what they had to say about how they came to be, their debut single and what the future plans are in store:

An interview with Midnight Feature:

TMP: I can see you are clearly classic horror fans so could you tell us the lore behind Midnight Feature and how you came to be?

MF: I (Dr R K Straker), started the band around ‘89 with my friend Jimmy Fulci. We were conjoined by a love of trashy horror and a passion for heavy music. Whilst still with us in spirit, sadly his physical form was taken from us in that savage incident a couple of years ago, it was this tragedy that forced me to seek out the current members you see with me today. I guess our sound is as much an ode to the music and the horror that shaped us as it is our own addition to the graveyard scene.

TMP: From a personal perspective, what was the motive behind your track “From The Grave”?
MF: (Alucard) Without over-poetising the song; for me it’s about the whole creative process and the gift Midnight Feature has given to me artistically. The music that we create together comes from a really honest place, it’s a real labour of love to a genre I care deeply about. So, “From The Grave” really became the casket in which we can rise from and go forth and be the band we want to be.

TMP: How long has “From The Grave” been in production and what challenges have you faced getting it to this point?

MF: (Alucard) It was the first song I wrote for the band. It went through a few identity changes through it’s time on this earth (who doesn’t?) and then it was just deciding how/where to record it. Collectively growing up with punk DIY ethos, we recorded/produced the track ourselves; alongside filming and editing the video. The whole process has been one long love letter to everything that brought us together.

TMP: Rumour has it you guys record in a Tattoo Studio, is this true?

MF: This is indeed true. Our HQ is Eerie Ink Tattoo Studios in Walsall, UK. The building itself is one big ode to horror, so naturally it feels like home. We built ourselves a little recording studio and practice space, it’s a very fitting place for us to be and create.

TMP: Do you have plans for a more substantive release, such as an EP or album in the near future or will you be trickle-releasing tracks as singles when they are completed?
MF: In November we’re going to be releasing a 2 track single. Then, in early 2025, we will be unleashing upon the world our debut album. Whilst it’s early days in our musical career, the creative bug has blessed us with its bite marks and inspiration and songs have came in thick & fast. We’re excited to share with the world what we’ve created.

MF: Our first show will be on November 3rd, supporting The Koffin Kats at RedRum in Stafford. We’re big fans, so it’s an honour to be sharing the stage with them.

TMP: Finally, is there anything you’d like to add?

MF: (Atticus) Yes. We have no association with “The Devils Fingers.”

Many thanks to the band for sharing their music and taking the time to speak with us about their story so far.

To conclude, Midnight Feature are definitely one to watch if classic horror inspired rock ‘n roll is your thing and we look forward to hearing and seeing more from them in future.

Their debut single “From The Grave” is out now on multiple platforms along with an official music video available over on Youtube.
