So far, 2025 has been a strong year for horror films. Presence kicked off the year with an ominous bang, and The Monkey brought some well-needed blood back to the big screen in February. The best part is, there’s plenty more horror films coming. Here is a top ten list of The Mourning Paper’s most anticipated horror movies.

10. Return to Silent Hill

Silent Hill is returning to the big screen with its newest release, Return to Silent Hill.

The third in the cinematic Silent Hill franchise, Return to Silent Hill is set to follow James Sunderland as he makes his way into the treacherous town after receiving a letter asking him to meet his late wife in their “special place”.

No official release date has been given yet for this video game adaptation, other than the placeholder year of 2025. 

9. I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)

Another re-quel has emerged. This time, Columbia Pictures is bringing back the long-thought-dead I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Similarly to Scream(2022) and Halloween(2018), I Know What You Did Last Summer(2025) is set to reboot the franchise, whilst still bringing back characters from the original film to satisfy old fans. The Fisherman returns on 18 July.

8. The Conjuring: Last Rites

The Warren’s are in for one last fight against the supernatural in The Conjuring: Last Rites.

Details of the story for this long-awaited finale are elusive, but what’s for sure is that this last Conjuring film will close the door on the iconic Warren family for good.

The Conjuring Last Rites is set to release on 5 September.

7. Bring Her Back

The mysterious Bring Her Back sees the Philippou brothers reunite to serve another dose of violent horror.

Bring Her Back focuses on a group of siblings who witness a ritual performed by their foster parent. Not much else is known about the film, but after the release of the Philippou brother’s previous film Talk To Me, it’s clear that the brothers have a keen eye for gore and generational trauma.

Bring Her Back is set to release on 1 August.

6. M3GAN 3.0

M3GAN 2.0 is next up. The once-pointless robot-slasher is back, and this time, she’s better than ever. The film will continue the story of Amelia and Cady as they are forced to ressurect the robot that tried to kill them, M3GAN.

She’s the only hope against a new, far scarier, evil AI-powered robot. M3GAN 2.0 slashes into UK cinemas on 27 June.

5. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

Get ready for another round of horror courtesy of Freddy Fazbear and his animatronic pals in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

The story is set to follow Jeremy Fitzgerald as he attempts to move on from the horrors he experienced while working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. Unfortunately, Freddy isn’t finished with him just yet.

Much of the previous cast are set to return, including Matthew Lillard as William Afton. Freddy is ready to deliver an early Christmas present when Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 releases on 5 December.

4. Predator: Badlands

The Yajuta is back on the hunt in Predator: Badlands. After recieving widespread acclaim for his directorial work on Prey, Dan Trachtenberg has returned to the Predator franchise.

Once again, he’s reinvented the franchise as Badlands’ protagonist is a Yajuta, instead of the franchise norm of the central lead being a human victim.

Badlands will focus on a young Yajuta sent to seek a fearsome adversary as their first-ever ceremonial hunt. Predator: Badlands releases 7 November. 

3. Frankenstein

Guielmore Del Toro returns to horror with Frankenstein.

Del Toro’s adaptation is set to draw elements from Mary Shelley’s original novel, with elements from James Whale’s Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein. This adaptation is heavily anticipated with its film release on Netflix set for November.

2. Final Destination: Bloodlines

Excitingly, the latest Final Destination film, Final Destination: Bloodlines releases on 14 May.

This new entry in the 25-year-old franchise focuses on a new family thrust into the clutches of death. One young family member seeks answers on how to escape their fast approaching fate, but one things for sure, death is inevitable, and he doesn’t mess around.

Expect blood, guts and creatively cruel accidental deaths.

1. 28 Years Later

Rage is back in 28 Years Later. The new release focuses on a family of survivors living off the coast of England in an attempt to avoid the almost three decade long Rage virus that has infected the UK.

So far, footage shown for the film showcases a new, far more violent infected individual, and what seems like a cult that worships the infection. Details on the story are scarce, but the film is sure to be a hit.

28 Years Later is set to resurrect the Zombie genre when it premieres on 20 June.
