Danny Boyle’s horror masterpiece 28 Days Later returned to UK cinemas earlier this week in anticipation of its upcoming sequel, 28 Years Later.

28 Days Later follows Jim (Cillian Murphy), a bike courier that wakes up 28 days after a virus known only as ‘Rage’ has swept across the UK, leading to a mass quarantine. Jim is forced to adapt to his new surroundings as he quickly finds out that those infected with ‘Rage’ aren’t the only ones to be wary of.

The film is synonymous with popularising the “fast moving” Zombie trope that became overused in the late 2000’s and early 2010’s.

Recently, many cinemas screened the 2002 zombie flick with the added bonus that featured an exclusive scene from the upcoming sequel.

The scene which is titled ‘The Discovery’ features Aaron Taylor Johnson and Alfie Williams as they explore the mainland of England, stumbling across a herd of Deer. The duo take a moment to enjoy the view before they continue on their search, entering a house that has an infected hanging from the ceiling.

Not much else is shown within the short scene but a general tone is established that links it well back to the original film. 28 Years Later is clearly just as gritty and relentless as the original, even if it does look a lot cleaner.

Other than the previous two trailers shown for the upcoming sequel, little is known about the main plot other than it will follow the story of family unit, similar to 28 Days Later

28 Years Later is set to release this June.
