The couple-duo of Luna Frighthouse and Cary Reilly has already made a big splash on the Glasgow scene. They are pushing out to take over more territory with their industrial noise metal.
Their sound has been described as a ‘blend of harsh sonic dissonance chaos combined with beautiful heart-wrenching vocals’. Following last year’s single ‘DIY Exorcism‘, the wives are back with their most impassioned and personally dark piece of music yet.

Straight from the get-go, the intense industrial noise takes you straight into a scene of horror. Luna Frighthouse has created a sound that is straight from a real-life lighthouse, transporting you to a place where you meet your worst fears.
While the music itself is very overbearing, the vocals of Carys Reilly are a draw of focus, both in how she sings and what she sings about. Her voice, while beautiful, sounds like someone on the edge of an emotional outburst.
Sounding like a mad mix of Lingua Ignota and Mike Patton, the contrast to music only increases the level of discomfort that continues to build.
And then the outburst occurs.
Reilly brings all the anger, emotions and hatred that have been building to the surface, raging in a passionate, unhinged manner. Hearing the repetition of ‘My body is a crime scene, you did this to me’, and the way it’s shouted hits hard.

You feel all the compassion and sorrow portrayed, and you want to do something to help, left feeling so powerless and helpless at the same time. By the end of the track, you feel decimated.
This is a deeply personal song to both women of Mrs Frighthouse that criticises “the power structures and culture of silence that enable abuse.”
Reilly reflected on her own experiences that inspired the song, “I finally get to scream to the world “He did this to me…you did this to me” after years of being pressured in to silence, get to rage at every perpetrator, every bystander who did nothing and everyone I told who ignored or minimised it”.
This is a furiously cathartic feminist song. I can only imagine how hard this must have been to create, but also the ease of being able to fill this track with everything they can give.
While horrible experiences of the past can never be forgotten, channelling all that emotion into a project such as Mrs Frighthouse can only be hugely admired. I can’t wait to hear more.
The single ‘My Body is a Crime Scene‘ is released on 5th June. Go and show Mrs Frighthouse some love.
