It’s time to transport our hearts and souls back to the late 80s, where thrash was king of the metal realm.
Mass Deception gets old school with their thrashing mad tactics, describing themselves as ‘just five dudes from the Netherlands thrashing like it’s 1989 and yelling at clouds (but in tune).’ I can’t argue with that after listening to their third album ‘Resurrections‘, an album that mixes thrash with the best epic melodies of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

This is a band that includes members of well established acts Asphyx, God Dethroned, Cirith Gorgor, and Inhume, so you know there’s no bullshit to be had with this kind of high calibre musicianship.
This album marks the final chapter of their trilogy, which began with Revelations (2016), followed by Redemptions (2019), and was preceded by the EP Halls of Amenti (2022). With each release has come more crisp, clean and brutal music to revel in.
This album is immense. The band have some brilliant stomping riffs for your finest boots to kick up some dust to. When the speed increases, you’ll be running and flailing like a maniac.

When the band get more melodic, you can feel the epic aura Mass Deception gives off, ensuring that we, as the listener, are in for one hell of a ride. One that we are not going to be allowed to get off of easily, not that you would want to with raging thrash like this.
The closest resemblance I can link this to is the style of Testament, coming forth with aggression and epic technical riffs, with a hint of Anthrax when you can sense the fun the band are having. Throw in some Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, and you’ve got a deadly combination.
Despite a handful of lineup changes over the years, Mass Deception have never lost focus on what they want to achieve. This band are here to stay and we should be very thankful about that. Now let’s thrash our hearts out.
You can listen to their 14-track album ‘Resurrections’ on the 25th of July.
