Now and then, a song just stops you in your tracks. For me, that was Black Sun, the debut single from a new band called NOST.
The London-based alt-rock group fuses heavy guitars, electronic landscapes, and catchy dark pop hooks into a sound that’s both cinematic and emotionally raw. Formed in 2024, the project began as a way to make sense of internal noise—and I was hooked from the first time I heard their new single Black Sun.

I put it on, and after a few seconds, I realised I’d become completely obsessed with the sound and creativity from this band. It’s one of those songs that grabs your attention quietly, then refuses to let go.
The opening feels like the calm before a storm: tense, a bit eerie, but beautiful. Then everything kicks in: the guitars swell, the drums hit hard, and suddenly it’s this massive, emotional wave. The vocals have that perfect mix of power and fragility, like they’re holding it together but barely. It’s raw in a way that doesn’t feel forced.

Lyrically, it’s heavy. Lines like “I bit the bullet for you” and “Memories screaming your name” sound like someone working through real pain, not just writing for effect. You can tell there’s something personal buried in there. For me, I personally take from it that it could be about loss, regret, trying to fix what’s already broken – the kind of stuff that hits harder when you’ve lived a bit.

What I love most is how Black Sun feels both huge and intimate at the same time. It’s got that cinematic sound you could blast in your car, but it also feels like it was made for headphones. In fact, let’s be honest, I can unashamedly admit that I’ve also been blasting this on my speakers and dancing about while getting ready.

For a debut, it’s ridiculously strong. You can hear the confidence, but also the vulnerability. NOST sounds like a band that knows exactly what they want to create – something dark, emotional, and real. Black Sun is the kind of song that stays with you long after it ends.
And if you want to see how all that emotion translates live, NOST are playing a gig in London on October 4th, supporting Lo Rays and Kuro’s co-headline tour at The Fiddler’s Elbow in Camden Town. It’s a big step for the band, and one that you would be able to say in the future to make others jealous. I am convinced this band have a big future ahead of them.

If Black Sun is anything to go by, that show’s going to be intense – the kind where you leave a little dazed but completely wired. There’s something about hearing a song like this in person that hits differently. The band themselves are extremely intriguing, I’m absolutely addicted and expectantly waiting for further releases. Do not sleep on them.
