Irish bad boys Survivalist made a splash with their debut full-length album ‘VII’ in 2022.
Their mix of heavy, boulder-like metalcore is a lesson in how to create something heavy and catchy as hell, with riffs full of groove and melody. The brutality in the riffs can verge on deathcore at times, a testament to the heaviness this band can pull off.

Survivalist have been busy this year, releasing 3 singles. The latest, ‘Failure of Being’, comes straight out of the gate with an aggressive nature and hooks you right in with its groovy ways.
The soaring chorus connects while the double-kick drums thunder by. The breakdown that occurs shortly after the 2-minute mark is a headbanger’s dream. By the end of the song, you will feel suitably exhilarated and left wanting more. It is a corker.

I was gutted not to make it to their Nottingham show at the end of September (Norovirus 1, Mean Mister Green 0). Here’s hoping they return so I can have my face sufficiently blasted off.
Hopefully, it’s in support of a new album that’s full of fantastic heaviness and Irish charm.
‘Failure of Being’ is out now.
