ABOUT US

What is ‘Mourning Paper’?
Mourning Paper is a piece of stationary that existed in the early Victorian Period. A full set of Mourning Stationary was characterised by a thick black border, which was an indication that the sender was in a state of mourning or otherwise difficult times.
Mourning Paper was one of the main inspirations behind our magazine’s simple but dark design.
Who Can Submit?
Death is universally inclusive and so are we at The Mourning Paper. We welcome work from people of all backgrounds, genders and sexualities.
We are particularly interested in the work of burgeoning writers but are not exclusive to the work of established authors. We ask that writers have a link to the alternative community or identify as alternative themselves.
Can I join the team?
Openings for positions within our team will be posted on social media prior to interviews.
Roles within the publication are open to candidates without experience but with relevant skill. However, those with previous editor positions or those who have already contributed to the magazine in some way maintain a higher chance of being selected.
